I’ve seen that 280 in person, and I would 100% take that.

That Miata is perfection.

Datsun because racecar!

My heart says S30 but my brain says MX-5.
I’m sure the ownership experience for the Miata would be better from a holistic-total-experience sort of view. Fuel economy, reliability, cost of ownership, parts availability, handling.
But the S30 would put a bigger smile on my face when it wasn’t devouring my wallet and further ruining my stop and go commute.
That said - I wouldn’t spend 10k on an NA but in would spend 10k on an S30.
So I guess my final answer is S30

I’d rather have this:

Datsun, all day.

All hand wringing and talk of revviness aside, not a 1.6
Get a 100-200k 1.8 miata with the right diff and a hardtop for half that and you have a better car.

Ok fine…

Both are probably headed in the right direction in value, but I think the NA Datsun NA would be the better buy.

I
f you never drive it again and leave it for 10 more years you could s
ell it on BAT for about 40k. Maybe 30k, 40k would be about 3k miles. Maybe, maybe not. It would be interesting to see what a low mile miata goes for in 10 years

ill take the datsun
then save up some pocket change for a ratty old high mileage miata for bad weather days the datsun is just too nice for

5.6L V8 with 420 HP, super reliable, good amount of tech without everything breaking constantly and it looks amazing, inside and out

Not for me.
Not trying to bash it bu
t here are my gripes:
Auto (it’s a cruiser I guess this is fine)
,
140k
miles
(probably fine but I would have a hard time spending 10k on something that high)
, that interior looks extremely grimey, I’m not sold on the looks either.

I know roughly nothing about miata specs, I kinda thought they all had the same engine. As much as people rave about them they have never interested me. I think I’m averse to
any convertible though.

The Miata is probably nice to drive.. but man that Datsun is COOL .

The 90-93 cars had a 1.6 and a fairly weak 6" ring gear
VLSD. Starting in 94 they got a 1.8
and a much stronger 7' ring gear
torsen unit along with some chassis stiffening. The same 1.8 (with minor changes along the way) continued through to about 05.
/I’ve currently
got two, a 93 1.6L
and a 94 1.8L

Datsun. I’m sure the Miata is fun to drive and all but I’ve never really craved for one. An S30 on the other hand...

that’s fair, we all have our own tastes and opinions. I don’t want manual, especially on a DD, to me 140k is low miles, especially if maintained. Interior could use a good detail, but nothing that a high quality detail guy couldn’t fix.

At the end of the day you’re still driving a fwd civic. It may be an unpopular opinion, but RWD>FWD, and this is especially true when talking performance vehicles.

you think it’s an unpopular opinion that RWD>FWD for performance vehicle?

confusingly so.

my bad. I thought it was pretty obvious, seeing as its a common opinion. Thus saying its “unpopular” is a joke.
